The BMD-1 is a Soviet airborne amphibious tracked infantry fighting vehicle (IFV). BMD stands for Boyevaya Mashina Desanta, which translates to Airborne Combat Vehicle. It was designed to be dropped by parachute. The BMD-1P was first produced in the late 1970s as a modernization of the BMD-1 with the most notable change being the installation of a more modern 9K111 ATGM launcher, replacing the older Malyutka one.
