Medium Tactical VehicleReplacement (MTVR) isa six-wheel drive all-terrain vehicle used by the USMC and US Navy. It is designed to replace the old M939 tactical trucks,and was first fielded in 1998, after the con tract was awarded to Oshkosh TruckCorporation . The MTVR comes in several variants, for a wide spectrum of tasks.It offers a major improvement in off-road capability. The MTVR Armor System (MAS) was designed for the 7-ton MTVR. The kitprovided complete 360-degree protection, as well as overhead and underbodyprotection for the crew compartment utilizing Mil-A-46100 High Hard Steel and Metal Composite. Option s for the kit included a person nel carrierconfiguration . The MAS came in two version s. These were a stand ardconfiguration and a Reducible MAS that was designed to meet the heightrestriction s when deployment aboard naval ships and when installed allowed the vehicle to be reducible to 98 inches. The armor kit weighted 10,500 pounds for both the cargo and person nel configuration s.
