The LAV-25 had a two-person, power-operated turret armed with an M242 25mm automatic cannon called the Chain Gun, and two 7.62mm M240 machine guns. While there is room in therear hull compartment of the LAV-25 for up to six infantrymen the Marines eventually decided to use the vehicle as a recon naissance asset instead of an armored person nel carrier. The Marine Corps was supplied with 422 LAV-25s between 1983 and 1987.
