The Type 0 Model 21 "Rabaul Naval Aviation Corps" represents the legendary Mitsubishi A6M2b Zero fighter aircraft as operated by the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service (IJNAS) from the massive, fortress-like base at Rabaul during World War II.
The A6M2 Model 21 was the definitive early-war variant of the ubiquitous "Zero". It was highly optimized for carrier-based operations and long-range deployments:
- Design: Featured folding wingtips (50 cm on each side) allowing it to tightly fit onto aircraft carrier elevators.
- Performance: Unmatched agility, a featherlight duralumin framework, and an incredibly long cruising range. It traded away armor protection and self-sealing fuel tanks to maximize this maneuverability.
- Armament: Outfitted with two 7.7mm machine guns in the nose cowling and two heavy 20mm cannons in the wings.
- Assemble with canopy open or closed
- Wingtips can be built folded or extended
